Sydney, located in Australia and is one of the most developed cities in the Southern Hemisphere. It’s a vibrant city with lots of nature but also amazing food. Since there are lot of immigrants in Australia, many of their foods are fusion which makes it very unique for people to try out. It has been around 7 years since I have been there and some of the food such as meat pie, seafood and coffee is what I’ve been missing. Last week, I had a chance to meet with my friend from Sydney which we explore some food and drinks in Toronto to satisfy my cravings.
Coffee is a huge culture in Sydney and it is the way to kick start the day. They believe that coffee is a way of life and unlike Canada, a lot of cafes in Sydney are usually family owned and there are not many chains stores. Some Australians even have 2-3 cups of coffee everyday ! We went to an Aussy style cafe in Toronto called Bluestone Lane. The design of the cafe is very nice and comfortable. They also serve good coffee as well.

Location: Bluestone Lane
After some coffee, I also had the chance to try meat pie and sausage roll. It is considered snacks in Sydney where they can buy it from supermarkets or from pastry shops. The stuffing of meat pie usually includes steak/beef and mushroom/ beef, chicken cream carrots and peas. Both meat pie and sausage roll, you should dip with ketchup and eat it. There are also 2 ways to eat meat pie. The first one is to cut the top and scoop out the meat to eat and the second way is to bite it from the side. Compare to the one in Sydney, the pastry is pretty good however the size was smaller and it was not as filling. steak beef, mushroom and beef, chicken cream carrots and peas After some coffee, I also had the chance to try meat pie and sausage roll. I also have the chance to make one of Australia’s famous desert Pavlova. Pavlova is meringue topped with whipped cream and toppings. The toppings are usually tropical fruit which gives them a refreshing feeling. It’s one of my friend’s favourite dessert. Australian usually bake it but it can be found in bakeries and people usually bring them to parties or gatherings to share. It took us around one and half hour to bake it, cool down and decorate.
