Growing up in Hong Kong for most of my life and leaving to Toronto for my tertiary education, I did not expect my university roommate is also from Hong Kong. After all these years in Hong Kong, I would want to meet people from different background than I am. Yet, I was stuck to become friends with her when I first arrive. Yet, afterwards I was glad that I met her since she introduce me to many places in Toronto and when I miss home, I can live a day like I was in Hong Kong. It is also my opportunity to share my experience of Hong Kong in Toronto to you guys and this is what I did !
On a casual Saturday morning which most people do not have work, I enjoyed a Hong Kong style Marconi with ham and Hong Kong Style milk tea. Many people might wonder what’s so special about hong kong style milk tea compare to the typical milk tea. Hong Kong style milk tea is made from black tea with evaporated/ condensed milk which has a mixed of sweet and bitter flavour when you drink it.

After a satisfying breakfast, hong kong people would like to rest at home or run errands until or before late afternoon. Then, people will grab some snacks and drinks. Today, I had Hong Kong style french Toast and bubble tea. Hong Kong style french toast is deep fried toast and spread with butter and condense milk. Bubble tea ( Milk tea with tapioca) was originated from Taiwan but become very popular in Hong Kong as well as in Toronto. More and more bubble tea shops are opening and you can almost see at least one bubble tea stops in every other block or every mall. If you have a sweet tooth, these two snacks will become your new favourite.

After snacks, my friend took me to a karaoke place. Karaoke is very popular in Hong Kong amongst youngsters especially during late afternoon time since karaoke is indoor and there are discounts which friends can sing together and socialize for 2-3 hours . Karaoke room is usually private rooms and you pay by the hours. There are many different songs with different languages as well. There are also Pop songs and classic songs for different age groups as well. You are also able to order snacks and drinks when you are singing as well!

For dinner, we had clay pot rice. It is one of the best dishes in Hong Kong especially for the winter since it is hot and yummy! There are a lot of choices in clay pot rice to which ingredients is in the clay pot. My favourite one is clay pot rice with cantonese sausage. The rice is also very filling for the night as well. However, usually you have to wait fo at least 15-30 minutes after ordering since they usually make it fresh!
